We are proud to announce our partnership with Derry Playhouse, delivering “Ár Shlí: Irish Identity Across Generations”; a storytelling project exploring intergenerational Irish identity within the London diaspora.
Funded by the Department for Foreign Affairs of Ireland, the project invites participants from a wide range of backgrounds and lived experiences to take part in a supported creative journey, including a fully funded weekend trip to Derry/Londonderry.
The project brings together people of different ages and connections to Ireland, including those who have moved from Ireland and second- and third-generation Irish people. Through facilitated workshops, conversation, and creative activities, participants will explore themes of identity and belonging, memory and migration, heritage, and evolving connections to Ireland and to each other. No previous experience in storytelling or the creative arts is required.
Selected participants will attend a series of creative workshops at the London Irish Centre, followed by a funded group trip to Derry/Londonderry, with flights and accommodation provided.
During the process, participants’ stories and reflections will be captured as part of a filmed creative journey, contributing to the project’s public outcomes.
The London-based workshops will take place from 10:00 to 13:00 on 10, 17 and 24 April, and 1 and 8 May.
These sessions will prepare participants for the trip and support the development of their individual and collective narratives.
“Ár Shlí” offers a space for reflection, connection, and shared storytelling, creating meaningful links between generations and across communities. Applications are now open, and places are limited.
