32-Mile Challenge

This September, we’re inviting you to walk, run, or jog 32 miles throughout the month and asking your friends, family, and network to donate and sponsor to support the London Irish Centre’s vital services.

This is a virtual event, and it’s entirely adaptable, so you can take it on at your own pace and wherever works for you. You may choose to run ten 5Ks, five 10Ks, or simply walk 1 mile a day throughout the month – it’s totally up to you.

How does it work?

If you’re interested in taking part, all you have to do is fill out our interest form, and tell us a little bit more about how you plan to fundraise for us. This can either be online, by creating a JustGiving page, or offline using our printable sponsorship form. Once you’ve completed the form, we’ll be in touch with instructions on how to begin your fundraising wither online or offline.

In return, we’ll send you an London Irish Centre-branded technical running top, as well as a free fundraising pack filled with tips on how to maximise your fundraising journey.

You will also have the opportunity to connect with other participants in a special 32-Mile Challenge Strava group, and to offer each other encouragement and motivation. We’d love it if you shared updates from your runs, walks, or jogs throughout the month – either through Strava or on social media using the hashtag #Steptember.

Moreover, our Fundraising team will be on hand throughout to provide one-to-one support, and regular check-ins throughout the month.

Make a real difference.

We’re asking that you try to raise £150 throughout the course of the month through donations and sponsorships. However, it’s entirely your challenge, and you can tailor it to suit you to however much you feel comfortable raising.

When you decide to undertake fundraising for the London Irish Centre, every penny you raise will go towards funding our vital services, and will make such a huge difference.

For over 70 years, we have provided well-developed and high-quality community services to highly vulnerable clients, alongside a strong cultural and heritage offer which keeps people connected to each other and to their history.

The money you will raise by running with the London Irish Centre will go towards supporting cases of loneliness and isolation, mental health, homelessness, and poverty.

We are immensely grateful to anyone offering their time and energy to take part in this challenge. Go raibh maith agat.

If you have any questions or queries at all about taking part in the 32-Mile Challenge, please reach out to our team at [email protected], and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.

FAQs

Why should I take part?

This challenge is for those who are interested in giving back and showing their support to the London Irish Centre, but who are not prepared to commit to a full marathon or half-marathon. If you’re looking to get active, connect with your community, and have fun this September, then the 32-Mile Challenge is for you.

How much money am I expected to raise?
This is entirely up to you! As a guide, we ask participants to raise £150 in the month of September, but whatever you can raise will make such a huge difference.

How and where can I complete my miles?
You can complete the 32-Mile Challenge in any way you like, wherever you like! It is a completely virtual challenge, so there is no requirement to be near the London Irish Centre, or in London at all. You can do it in your local area, park, or gym. You can do it as a solo challenge, or take part as a team with your friends and family. All we ask is that you record your miles and try your best to keep sponsors updated on your challenge.

How do I register for the challenge?
It’s easy – simply click here to fill out our registration of interest form, and tell us a tiny bit more about yourself. In return, we’ll send you a London Irish Centre-branded technical t-shirt, as well as a free fundraising pack filled with tips on how to raise money.

Is there a registration fee?
No, taking part in the 32-Mile Challenge is completely free of charge. All that we ask is that you raise as much money as you can to support the vital services of the London Irish Centre.

Do I need to provide evidence to the London Irish Centre that I’ve completed my miles?
As this is a challenge based on trust, we will not ask for evidence that you have completed any amount of miles. However, we would love to see any photos you have taken during your challenge. Send them to us on social media, or by email to [email protected]!

How do I get going with my fundraising?
The easiest way to begin is by setting up an online fundraising page on JustGiving. Once this has been done, it’s a good idea to share this around with your friends, family, colleagues, neighbours and others, through social media, text, email, and WhatsApp.

Can I raise money without setting up an online fundraising page?
Of course – all you need to do is print out our sponsorship form, fill this in, and set it back to us using the above address. We ask that, when using this form, you fill out all the columns, so that we are able to claim 25p Gift Aid for every £1 donated.

How do I record how many miles I’ve walked?
You can do this either online or offline – whichever you fancy.

  • Online, we recommend you download the app Strava, and join our 32-Mile Challenge group, where you can share your progress with fellow participants.
  • Offline, you can use our Miles Calendar, which we’ll send you in the post along with your technical t-shirt, to track how many miles you’ve managed.

Is it safe to participate if I have health issues? What level of fitness do I need to have?
A reasonable level of fitness is advised to take part in this challenge, but at the same time, we want it to be accessible to most. Therefore, you should go at a pace which is comfortable for you, and we ask you not to push yourself too hard. If in doubt, please get in touch with our team at [email protected].

What happens if I don’t complete the Challenge by 30th September?
No worries! We understand that life often gets in the way, and it won’t always be possible to complete the 32-Mile Challenge as you may have originally envisioned. If this is the case, there is no hard deadline to complete your 32 miles whatsoever – we’re only using the month of September as a framework.

Do as much as you can, update your sponsors/supporters regularly, and be clear about how far you’ve come in your challenge. At the end of the day, what matters most to us is the money you raise and the difference you’ll make to vulnerable and isolated members of our community, rather than anything else.
