The London Irish Centre has announced four new appointments to its Board of Trustees. The Board is the governing body of the Charity.
“I am delighted to welcome Angela Murphy, Edward Bracken, Seán Cavanagh and Tom Connaughton to the Board of the London Irish Centre. They bring with them a host of highly relevant skills including community services, culture, sport, finance, and venue operations. We have great plans to develop the Centre to provide more and better services for the Irish community in London and these new appointments will help us achieve our objectives.”
The new appointees come from a range of backgrounds:
Angela is a health and social care professional with over 25 years’ experience across the industry in both commercial and not for profit organisations. A former Director of Jewish Care and Brent Irish Advisory Service, Angela brings a wealth of experience across community services. Portfolios in advice and advocacy, social work and day care services, homecare, alongside capital build projects – including care campuses across N/W London and Hertfordshire. Currently working in Government within the UK Health Security agency and most recently within the Department of Health and social care supporting the critical response to the Covid19 pandemic within the departments, social care taskforce. Angela has long supported the Irish Community as a volunteer at the Haringey Irish Centre and most recently as a trustee of Irish in Britain (IIB). Angela is passionate about developing and securing support for services for the most vulnerable across our communities and has an absolute commitment to ensuring that culturally sensitive services are available for the diaspora of our diverse city and beyond.
Edward is an award-winning hotelier with extensive operational experience with international hotel Brands: Marriott, IHG and Radisson. He has operated independent boutique hotels, raising private equity and bank funding. He is the Cluster General Manager for the Dominus group operating upscale Hotels in London. Edward hails from Limerick where he grew up and graduated from The Shannon College of Hotel Management. As a dad of 5 children who keep him on his toes, he has a strong affiliation with his Irish heritage and is a keen sailor from his time on the Shannon. He is delighted to be part of the evolution of the London Irish Centre.
Seán is currently Managing Director of UK and Irish accountancy practice SCC Chartered Accountants. He also is a regular GAA analyst with RTÉ television in Ireland as well as being a multiple All-Ireland winner with Tyrone during his playing career.
Tom’s background is in music and the intersection of music and technology, and he is currently Managing Director for Spotify in the UK & Ireland. He was born and raised in a London-Irish household, spent time in the LIC growing up and understands what the LIC means in Camden. Tom believes it is important to tell both the story of what Irish people have contributed to London and the UK; and also tell the story of modern, diverse Ireland and London. He still lives locally with his young family and is excited to contribute to the next stage of the London Irish Centre’s development.
