Win a Home in London in partnership with The Ballymore Group and Roscommon GAA

The LIC is delighted to announce that in conjunction with The Ballymore Group and Roscommon GAA Club you can win a 2-bedroom apartment at London City Island, valued at £695,000 (*c €815,000) by entering a draw with tickets on sale for just €100 on www.winahomeinlondon.com.

Win the keys to 502 Hercules House, 18 Botanic Square, London City Island E14, a breath-taking 2-bedroom apartment found in the most idyllic location London City has to offer. Dubbed a ‘mini-Manhattan,’ London City Island is situated a stone’s throw from Canary Wharf and is recognised as an emerging new hub for London.

The apartment is located on the spectacular city peninsula overlooking the waters of the River Thames and Lea. With the sparkling lights of Canary Wharf and the O2 Arena just outside your window, the life of this vibrant city is truly just on your doorstep.

On 30th December 2020, one lucky winner will become the homeowner of this brand new two-bedroom apartment.

“The good people at Roscommon GAA, my second favourite county in the whole of Ireland, have got together with the London Irish Centre and we are giving a house away! Buy a ticket for €100 and the big draw is on 30th December. From all of us at the London Irish Centre thank you so much and we really appreciate your support.”Dermot O’Leary, London Irish Centre patron

The LIC has been providing community services and Irish culture to London since 1954.Covid-19 has had a huge effect on its capacity to provide this support, especially to London’s large, older Irish community, who are especially vulnerable and those more recently made vulnerable The Centre closed its doors in March and responded to the pandemic by reshaping its services.

Below are some of our headline statistics since March 18th when the first wave of Covid hit:

  • We became the first centre offering shielding to the vulnerable in Camden, providing essential food and supplies
  • We delivered over 5,000 hot meals and 2000 food parcels to those who were shielding across London.  Our volunteer drivers were often the only visitors for many people over 3 months
  • We made over 3,000 check-in calls to clients providing friendly, regular contact
  • Our Advice team has won £363,596 in essential benefits for clients who are disabled and at risk of poor mental and physical health. Those who we helped claim benefits were on average £72 a week better off and helps to ward off food poverty and indebtedness
  • The Advice team have worked with over 1,300 clients who are in desperate need of support
  • £8,671 has been given to clients through grants for white goods and other essentials
  • Our online London Irish Charity Night raised over £100,000 and brought joy to so many
  • A quarter of a million people participated in our digital SOLAS Season cultural programme to help people feel connected at a time of great isolation
  • We helped over 200 people through our wellbeing advice helpline, taking the strain of the NHS
  • We set up over 70 telephone befriending pairs who speak on the phone several times a week and who have rich links across the generations and made new friendships

The closure of the Centre has resulted in significant financial losses with the cancellation of several large fundraising events, and the necessity to raise funds for the LIC and its community is now more important than ever.

Ellen Ryan, CEOat The London Irish Centre said:”I am so proud of the way we have all pulled together as a community through this crisis. Staff, volunteers,  and our friends have worked hand in hand to ensure that we deliver the services and cultural output needed to enable the community to feel a sense of hope and resilience for the future. We have also received crucial support from the Irish Government and Irish Embassy, London, and our partners at Camden Council. This is your opportunity to join us and support our essential work to enable us to continue our recovery into the future.”

Aidan Brady, commercial director of Roscommon GAA, added,“We are delighted to partner with the London Irish Centre. The work they do is incredible. This fundraising drive will make a very significant impact on both the London Irish Centre and also in terms of developing playing facilities for the young people across Roscommon in the West of Ireland.”

You can purchase a €100 ticket on www.winahomeinlondon.com. The draw will be streamed live across social media on the evening of 30th December 2020.
