Our Beyond Beginners 10 week course is designed for learners who already have some experience with Irish, whether you’ve completed introductory classes elsewhere, studied Irish in school, or built a basic understanding of the language. This course follows TEG A2 framework as a guide for structuring topics, grammar progression, and communication skills.

What is TEG?

The Teastas Eorpach na Gaeilge (TEG) is Ireland’s first and only system of certification for adult learners of Irish. Developed by the Centre for Irish Language at Maynooth University, it provides a clear pathway for language learning and assessment. It is aligned with the international CEFR framework that’s used across Europe for other languages.

What to expect? 

Over 10 weeks, you’ll expand your vocabulary, deepen your understanding of Irish grammar, and grow more confident using Irish in everyday situations. The course integrates speaking, listening, reading, and writing, supported by cultural insights throughout.

By the end of the course, you’ll be able to:

• Take part in simple conversations across a wider range of everyday topics
• Ask and respond to questions more naturally and accurately
• Use and revise core tenses (present, past, future) in practical contexts
• Apply grammar such as word order, pronouns, adjectives, and prepositions with more confidence
• Talk about familiar areas including family, home, hobbies, work, food, health, and travel
• Engage more comfortably with Irish cultural contexts and community settings
