Who is this course intended and suitable for?

This new multigenerational community choir will bring the community together through their mutual love of singing and meeting new people. London Irish Community Voices is an in person, over 18s weekly choir.

No audition or experience is needed, and you can expect to sing a wide range of songs from traditional Irish folk ballads to pop-rock, and maybe even a few alternatives in between! You do not need to be able to read music to join the choir.

Accomplished Choral Lead, Natasha Lohan, will direct the choir in these inclusive and energetic sessions. You can expect to learn a new song every two weeks and have built up a small repertoire by the end of the term. Emphasis will be on collective singing. Technique will be introduced slowly to the group making it accessible for all levels.

Benefits of group singing:

Recently, there have been scientific studies on the benefits of collective singing. These include:

  • Stress relief (singing has been proven to lower cortisol levels)
  • Increased feelings of wellbeing (singing releases endorphins)
  • Increased social bonding
  • Boosts the immune system
  • Improves breathing
